Located in Mira Mesa, The Sandlot is a fresh addition to San Diego’s sports scene, featuring five batting cages and an inviting space for parents and spectators. The facility is clean and spacious, equipped with softball and baseball pitching machines, but note that these require a coach or teammate to operate them. When I visited, two of the cages were in use, with coaches actively working with kids, showcasing the focus on instruction.

The coaching staff here is noteworthy; Caleb, the director, is praised for his quick responses and passion for teaching, complemented by Coach Nate’s effective techniques. Parents have found the classes to be a great value, and the overall coaching experience has received high marks from both players and parents. The lounge area, outfitted with five large TVs, offers a comfortable spot to relax while waiting for lessons to conclude. There are even foosball machines available for a leisurely game.

While The Sandlot is primarily an instructional facility, it does provide a laid-back atmosphere that makes it easy to feel at home. Operating hours span Monday to Friday from noon to 8 PM and weekends from 9 AM to 5 PM, making it convenient for families to fit in practice sessions. This place holds promise for local baseball and softball enthusiasts looking to improve their skills.
